#MusicMonday: Give Me Faith by Elevation Worship #Christian #video

With all the driving I continue to do, there are so many contenders for #MusicMonday, but this week Elevation Worship’s “Give Me Faith” rose to the surface as one to meditate upon.

The opening lyrics implore God.

I need you… To soften my heart, and break me apart.

Words that may only make sense to a Christ-follower. Why would anyone else want to be broken apart? That doesn’t sound fun. Well… that part isn’t. But this is bigger than fun.

It is not until I’ve truly tried to have a heart like Christ, that I realize how hard and desperately wicked my heart really is… And how that part of me needs to be broken.

It’s not that I think I am the Tin Man or that much different from most people, but I am not called to compare myself to others. I am called to be like Christ. And any hardness in my heart is not from God, nor does it glorify Him.

Before you think I’m being too hard on myself, I understand that much of my “bad behavior” could be justified because bad things have happened to me. The “shell” around my heart is more of a protective measure that helps me navigate a life that is unfair, confusing and full of other selfish humans. When I am honest with myself- I know that human nature does not always default to “soft-hearted” as it should. It defaults to selfish and seeing things from our own point of view.

It’s easy to get caught up in our ambitions, wants and desires. It’s the American way, right? But how do we yield when God moves us in another (sometimes totally opposite) direction?

Do we resist and pout? Do we cling to what has been comfortable in the past? Do we act as if our plans are better than His and put out by what He has allowed to happen?

Yep. I do it all the time.

I don’t mean to. I never mean to. It just… happens.

Life turns upside down… Someone doesn’t keep a promise… I am treated unfairly…

So when the lyrics in this music video go on in asking Him for faith to trust what He says– I can relate. There’s a spiritual warfare going on all around us and even inside of us. Sometimes what I know in my head to be true doesn’t translate to faith in my heart. And I need His help.

The above video is a live performance of this song and it’s incredibly powerful. Purchase the song on Amazon here (free for Prime members).

LYRICS: Give Me Faith by Elevation Worship

I need You
To soften my heart and break me apart
I need You
To open my eyes, to see that You’re shaping my life

All I am, I surrender

Give me faith to trust what You say,
That You’re good and Your love is great
I’m broken inside, I give You my life

I need You
To soften my heart and break me apart
I need You
To pierce through the dark and cleanse every part of me

All I am, I surrender

Give me faith to trust what You say,
That You’re good and Your love is great
I’m broken inside, I give You my life

And I may be weak but Your Spirit’s strong in me
My flesh may fail, but my God, You never will
[x2]

Give me faith to trust what You say,
That You’re good and Your love is great
I’m broken inside, I give You my life
[x2]

And I may be weak but Your Spirit’s strong in me
My flesh may fail, but my God, You never will
[x2]
