Creativity is cute. Clarity is profitable.
A few months ago, I named one of my offers in a way I thought was clever.
It was creative. It felt original. It felt me.
The only problem?
No one knew what it meant.
And worse, no one was searching for it.
🤦🏻♀️ D’oh.
Despite knowing about Google Keyword Planner for years, I skipped one of the most critical steps in brand naming:
👉 Asking: How do other people think, talk, and search about this topic?
Turns out, my poetic little package name wasn’t connecting.
It wasn’t searchable.
It wasn’t clear.
And I’m not a famous artist so I don’t have the luxury of brand mystique.
So I’m choosing clarity. 🎯
What Brand Naming Should Start With
Here’s what we do know:
- Google is intent-based. People go there to find solutions.
- Social media is interruption-based. You’re pulling people away from what they were already doing.
And lately?
That interruption game has started to feel exhausting.
But Google?
Google is quietly powerful.
That’s why I now start my brand naming process with Google Keyword Planner — before I name a package, program, or even a podcast episode.
Ask yourself:
✅ Are people searching for this phrase?
✅ What exact words do they use?
✅ Can I create helpful content and rank for it?
Find a phrase with high volume + low competition, and you’ve just given your brand the gift of long-term visibility.
Branding = Counting the Cost
All of this reminded me of Luke 14:28:
“Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost…”

Branding is the same.
Count the cost before you build something beautiful — a website, an offer, a brand.
Not just in dollars.
But in time.
In mental energy.
In discoverability.
Because it doesn’t matter how amazing your work is if no one can find it, or understand what it is.
The Big Takeaway
So I don’t know who needs to hear this,
but go mess around with Google Keyword Planner today.
Use it as a brand-naming tool.
Let it shape your clarity.
Let it build your visibility.
You’re welcome. 😎
