[San Ignacio, Belize] Hotel Highlight: Midas Belize Resort

San Ignacio is the second largest city in Belize (after Belize City) in what is known as the Cayo District. This is the first resort on my #BelizeIt Resort Crawl.

Midas is a family-owned business and resort. The entire family is adorable. You may be able to catch some of them in the kitchen for breakfast. Anyway, the name Midas comes from a combination of family names but the wink to Midas Automotive is apparent in the wifi code. Watch my video interview and walkthrough with owner Mike Preston above.

As you enter the property the office is straight ahead with the pool and bar to your right. I enjoyed my pretty cocktails.

The property now has 40 units, a mixture of cabanas and apartments.

MY FAVORITE THINGS

  • Short walk to the city center
  • Secluded enough not to hear noise when you are trying to sleep
  • In-room wifi
  • Mini-fridge
  • Front porch hammocks
  • Walked to Blended Deli and got a delicious juice

KEEP IN MIND

  • Itโ€™s the jungle. Bring bug spray.
  • Solo female travels should prepare to be honked and gawked at in the city center

TRAVEL TIPS

  • Consider buying an umbrella at one of the grocery stores. It can shield from rain, sun and unwanted stares.
  • The most popular restaurant seems to be Hannahโ€™s at night, so go for lunch instead.
  • It may make sense to buy a knife (pocket knife or kitchen) so you can cut the fresh fruit you buy at the market. Belize can be pricey and this is a good way to eat healthy food without blowing the budget.

JENTIP:ย  TRY CHIMOLE

[San Ignacio, Belize] Let’s file this under “tastes WAY better than it initially looked”. ??? When @midasbelize offered me a bowl of #chimole, I insisted that he only give me the smallest tiny amount. This photo is my 2nd bowl. ??โ€โ™€๏ธ?? This dish is also known as “Black Dinner” for its color which it derives from black recado, which is a Mayan combination of spices. This might be the most delicious thing I’ve eaten in #Belize. Honestly. The smoky and spicy flavor was strong and surprising. And exciting! I’ve never eaten an egg this way but it was delish! Of course, all this love does not come from a restaurant but from the home of Superintendant Ramirez. ??? Yum. I wish I had some more right now. ??? . . . . If you want help finding delicious and a local food in Belize or anywhere, let me and my team @travelhub365 do it for you. You can also check me out @jentastictravels on #instagram. ???
